The Health Care System of America relies heavily on nurses. It could even be said that nurses are the backbone of this health care system. One out of every four health care workers is a nurse.  In American hospitals, the average patient will receive care and attention from nurses for 6.3 hours of their day (Lovell Vicky, PHD, 2005). Quality care from these nurses greatly affects a patient’s recovery and overall well-being. Making sure that the American health care system maintains the appropriate number of nurses on staff is vital in order to provide exceptional patient care and ensure the best treatment and recoveries possible.
