GUIDELINES
Choose a god or goddess from Greek, Roman, Norse, Egyptian or any other mythology, and compare this god’s/goddess’s character and actions with those of an actual public figure in either history or today’s world.
• This is a persuasive essay that requires a thesis. You are not just listing similarities and differences.
• As with all comparisons, yours must reveal something significant about both the person and the god/goddess to whom they are being compared.
• When you find this significance you will have your thesis
• This comparison will also require research to be convincing. (See requirements)
• Your comparison must be based mostly on similarities. For instance, you cannot compare two “things” that have more differences than similarities.
• This paper requires strong critical and creative thinking: you need to go beyond the literal.
o No human being will have Thor’s hammer; however, this person should have a particular kind of power that they wield which is specific to them.
o Zeus wields a lightning bolt; again, no human actually does this, but there are many associations you could make with lightning.
? Is some person extremely electric? Do they manage or harness some power like electricity – or some other modern equivalent.
I cannot stress this enough: you will need to be creative and analytical.
