Expanding the roles of specialty pharmacists

o    A brief overview of specialty pharmacy, specialty drugs, eligibility for specialty pharmacy (see slides attached)
o    What programs will you develop which will help expand the roles of public health pharmacists? List the types of patient care programs and how these programs will help optimize patient health. For example; Specialty pharmacies designed comprehensive, coordinated patient care management programs to ensure optimal therapeutic and cost-effective outcomes.
o    How will you design these patient care programs? Design the programs
o    This leads to the major aspect- Collaborative practice agreements-elaborate on this (this is the focus of this publication)
o    How can pharmacists utilize these programs to collaborate with physicians and other health care professionals to optimize patient health? For example: through collaborative practice agreements (You need to have a brief understanding of what collaborative practice agreements are-see slides attached)-Pharmacists use a patient-centered approach in collaboration with other providers on the health care team to optimize patient health and medication outcomes
o    Explain the elements needed to provide collaborative practice agreement and a sustainable direct patient care pharmacist-For example;
o    Explain how the benefits (What are the benefits?) with help expand roles of specialty pharmacists (SEE SLIDE 13)
o    Discuss the roles of specialty pharmacists, and how this roles can be expanded by having a collaborative practice agreement with physicians and since they are diseased focus, patients can see them (PHARMACIST instead of physicians) directly after they have been diagnosed by their physician and the specialty pharmacist takes over in regards to prescribing, providing clinical support and handling the complex conditions and insurance claims.
o    Further, discuss the eligibility for a collaborative practice agreement with physicians.
