Students are required to write an Action Memorandum (maximum 1400 words) on one aspect of social policy. The Action Memorandum will recommend a policy change within government, civil society or a private organization. The Memorandum will summarize the issue, recommend a course of action, and provide background information and key considerations. Students will present their Action Memorandum in class.
Action Memorandums- – past/present/future any policy. He reaches the format used by the ministry of foreign affairs: 2 line policy statement. The first 3 of 8 parts of outline on the first page, so you’re writing really consciously.
Next a summary, a paragraph or 2, so that if someone reads only this page, they would have a good idea.
3rd piece is the recommendations (all on the first page).
4th-background-the info that isn’t right up front, but gives them context for the issue
5th- considerations- what can go wrong, what do they have to think about- what could go on the front page of newspapers.
6th communications plan, maybe a paragraph. Outlines what kind of cam plan if any are you recommending accompany, precede or go after a policy change. Sometimes you don’t need one.
7th financial implications-what will it cost, not an exact estimate, but a ballpark estimate. A couple lines-> here are the main items you need to think about allocating resources too
