Information technology changes at a rapid pace with new innovations appearing continuously. Information technology leaders strive to implement appropriate technology to solve problems and leverage technology in innovative ways. It can be a challenge to determine how to consume and integrate information technology in an existing operational environment.
Consider opportunities to use IT to solve a real-world problem. Ideas for real-world problems could be:
- Using information technology to assist in treating and stopping the Ebola outbreak
- Designing a network infrastructure that could bring a poorer part of the world into the twenty-first century
- Creating a website, mobile application, and/or database that supports connecting those in need of addiction treatment to centers and practitioners who are immediately available
After brainstorming some ideas, decide on a potential capstone project. Describe your idea. Explain how you will scale back the scope of your idea into a project that can be completed within the time constraints of this course.
Then review the project ideas posted by your classmates, and provide your feedback on their project ideas.
COMPONENT-1: DRAFT 1:
Submit the first draft of your IT project proposal after you have completed Sections 1 and 2 of the deliverable.
Questions to consider when deciding on a capstone project:
- If your project solution is implementable and testable, will you be able to provide the results of the testing and share whether or not your project met your vision?
- If your project solution is not immediately implementable and testable, how could you develop a plan for implementation and testing?
- Could you provide a detailed timeline for development of the project?
- Could you identify the challenges you anticipate and how might you address them?
- What criteria would you use to determine that the project is successful?
- Is your project scope appropriate to be completed within the course time frame?
Your draft should address the following sections:
- Section 1: Problem Statement
- Section 2: Overview of Solution
