Assignment Requirements
I uploaded two materials to you, please read them before start writing. Those two materials can be used to analyze this essay. this is the eassy related to gerontology.
Description
For this first assignment, you are to report, summarize, and provide an overall appraisal of the psychometric properties of responses to an instrument by older adults. This can be a scale initially developed for use with older adults (e.g., Geriatric Depression Scale-cannot select this ) or a measure first developed with younger samples which has since been validated for use across the lifespan (e.g., Beck Depression Inventory- cannot select this ).
Note that you cannot select Geriatric Depression Scale or the Beck Depression Inventory. Part of this exercise entails the identification and selection of an appropriate instrument for this assignment.
This entails analysis of indices of reliability and validity as found in published research. You should briefly describe how the instrument was first developed and research reported by subsequent authors across samples. It is critical, therefore, that you do not select an obscure measure, but one that has been used and studied for its psychometric soundness. Emphasis must also be place on reliability and validity specific to older adult samples (i.e., you should not generalize from young to older adults).
Do not compile information for different language formats of scales (as translations are not always done effectively) nor different item formats (e.g., original and brief).
Process
A good place to start is to select a few prospective scales and do a PsycINFO or Ageline search using the name of the scale and the key words reliability and/or validity. You are required to consider the various types of validity as described in this course (i.e., be wary, since authors often misapply labels, using one when, in fact, they mean another). Do not simply report findings as found in source articles but ensure that authors’ findings provide sufficient justification for the psychometric conclusions they express. (Fortunately, indices of reliability tend to be more consistently and accurately reported.)
As a summary, you are to conclude whether the scale is appropriate for use with older adults. What limitations should be kept in mind for those considering use of your selected scale and why (e.g., young-old versus old-old)?
Details
This assignment should be no longer than five typed, double-spaced pages in a 12-point font. This does not include a reference section listing each of the articles cited in the text. You should make reference to at least five studies aside from the original article describing the development of the scale. There should be relatively more emphasis on instrument validity than indices of reliability.
