Book/movie review

Paper instructions:
In a page or two (minimum 500 words), tell me what you got out of the film and how it connects with the class. I have intentionally left the format open-ended so that you can approach it in your own way. However, I’ve included some questions to focus on. You might want to focus on an aspect of the film that you found particularly interesting.

Immortal Beloved –a good but not great film about the life of Beethoven, interwoven with the quest for the identity of his “Immortal Beloved.” Rather loose with the facts, but this is balanced by several insightful moments. Some questions you might want to consider: 1) How is Beethoven perceived by women in this movie? 2) In the movie, what is Beethoven’s overall personality like? How does this compare with what is said about him in the lectures and in your textbook? 3) In the movie, what kind of reactions does the public have to his music? 4) Consider the scene where Beethoven attempts to play his piano concerto with the orchestra, but the performance keeps breaking down. Why is this? Why do the other performers refuse to go on with the performance? Why does the audience laugh at Beethoven? Do you think that something very much like this scene might conceivably have happened in Beethoven’s real life?
