Assignment Readings: Chapter 3: pp. 73-108
Broadly, identify how your state funds schools, e.g., income taxes, sales taxes, etc. Identify state economic trends and explain how such trends will impact current and future state appropriations. Briefly, describe the major components of your state’s state aid formula, e.g., foundation aid, weighted components.
Written Assignment #1: Your supervisor has asked you to develop and conduct a teacher professional development program for the purpose of explaining the state aid formula and why such student factors as attendance and counting students served in various programs (gifted, bilingual, economically disadvantaged students, etc.) are important to local district funding. Develop a very basic focused power point presentation that explains how the formula works. Consider your audience of teachers when developing this presentation. Include, if applicable, how the student counts that are taken at the teacher/site level generate state dollars. Submit Written Assignment #1 in the Grade Center.
