The discussion question for this essay is “Consider the character of Iocaste. Is she a “flat” character—a generalized queen figure—or an individual with distinctive traits and personality? Point to speeches or details in the play to back up your opinion.”
I want this essay focus on Iocaste is not a “flat” character in Oedipus of King. I think she is not a flat character. Even she doesn’t really change the play and she is not a protagonist, but she is queen, her husband got killed by her son, she married the killer of her husband, which is her son. In the end, she finds out information and kills herself. Also, she tells Oedipus so many things and helps him. All if these things happened on her could influence the play. In the play, she actually begged Oedipus not to dig deeper, she is trying to protect him from knowing the truth. So I think she is not a flat character.
PLEASE, rewords what I just said, just an idea what I want in the essay. A quotation from play.
