This course is designed to help students understand learning by youths from diverse cultural backgrounds in out-of-school settings as a complement to learning in regular school classroom settings. Emphasis is placed on understanding the many complex dimensions of cooperation and participation underlying learning and literacy development and how these are affected by learning opportunities mediated by computers and the internet and by social interaction in learning settings.
