The primary sources must be obtained by the writer in advance of composing the papers. The idea is not to recite a collection of facts, but rather to identify and interpret important issues, take a stand on them, and then use ideas and events from the past to support your position.
The papers should deploy a clear and specific thesis or main argument in the introduction, which also briefly outlines the main issues under consideration and what the essay intends to accomplish. The body of the essay must provide evidence in support of the thesis, using topic sentences to advance parts of the argument and transitions to link these sub-arguments in a logical order. The conclusion should sum up the main argument and discuss its broader implications.
The papers should be double-spaced, five to seven pages in length, use twelve point Times New Roman font, and include a title that provides insight into the paper’s main point. They also must employ correct spelling, grammar, word choice, and syntax. All quotations and paraphrases from primary and secondary sources should be cited as footnotes or endnotes following the Chicago Manual of Style. Sources: Those Youtube videos or a book Germany in Transit: Nation and Migration, 1955-2005 should be the only and primary source(s) of the essay. It means the essay must be written based on those videos or the book. You can add 1~2 secondary sources if it is necessary but NO MORE than 1~2 additional sources.
