Paper instructions:
Your assignment should have a strong, specific
thesis, such as “Poe’s ‘The Cask of Amontillado’ uses
the setting of the story to create a feeling of dread.”
This type of thesis would give you the key terms to use
in your analysis. Be sure to put your thesis sentence in
bold so your reader will know what it is.
Then develop your essay, providing details from the
story. Use in-text parenthetical citations each time you
quote (or paraphrase) from the story. If you use a
quotation or if you paraphrase the material (putting it in
your own words–no more than four words in a
sentence from the original), cite the page number where
it can be seen, and explain the point you are making
with that evidence. Summarize your key points in a
conclusion and restate the main idea of your thesis.
Provide a Works Cited (on a separate page) at the
end of your paper. Insert a page break after the
conclusion so that the Works Cited is always on
another piece of paper.
