This is a seminar paper for Discourse Analysis Course. The topic I chose is interruption. In our daily life, we come across so many situations in which people interrupt each other in communication. So I’m so interested in searching and reading more about the reasons and the possibilities that would make a speaker interrupts another. The seminar paper follows a specific format, and requires us to gather data inorder to come up with our results. The format is: first we have to introduce the topic plus ask the question. Then methodology; what we did to answer the question: participants, recording, transcriptions and then descripe the setting of the transcription.Then the results; findings and examples from the data. Finally, we should provide a conclusion which includes three points: summary, furture study and application.
The most important part is, of course, methodology. Gathering data is important. I was thinking to have an interview or a converstaion from utube that has a lot of interruptions in it. We should record 2 minutes only then transcripe it using the symbols of interruption which is =
you may talk about overlapping in discourse as a point if that would help.
I found two articles that may help, so we need 3 more sources. One or two would be the interview that we will use to conduct the study, and 3 would be articles or whatever.
Attached you will find a copy of the seminar paper description plus a website where u can see how did they transcribe a speech using the symbols. Of course we will mainly focus on interruption only. After gathering the data and transcripe the speech, you will talk about the participant, how many are they, what is the topic they are discussing, and……so on.
Make sure that all the points are included. The paper is 12 in lengths including 1 title page, one reference page and one abstract page and 9 for the content. So 9 pages+ the abstract one.
The language of the writer shouldn’t be VERY advanced. I want a good writer that writes to the point and uses a simple language that the professor never doubts it.
There is no hurry 2 weeks is fine with me, but i need it to be as the professor wants exactly. As for the data, I would recommend you to have an interview from Utube, then transcribe two minutes only that has at alest 5 interruptions. of course the transcription should be included in the paper. Honestly i don’t know what is better to use as data for this study. You know more than i do. So here you go, it’s you now.
