Quantitative Assignment

Paper instructions:
Quantitative Assignment:

Assignment description: You will need to find 3

articles that have used quantitative research methods.

Once you find and read your articles, you will
need to identify the elements that make them

quantitative. You will need to write a summary of the

research report with the information included in
step 3 and 5 below. Your write up should include

complete sentences, be grammatically correct, and

have correct spelling.

Also remember to include a
copy of each of the original articles (3) with your

assignment submission.
Assignment purpose: This assignment will allow you

to demonstrate your ability to identify the key

characteristics of a quantitative study in a real
research report. It also will allow you to demonstrate

and practice writing a summary of those characteristics

of a research report.

9. When you are doing a database search, try to

look for articles that are on a similar topic because it

will make it easier for you to synthesize their
content.
? As you are looking, remember what makes

research quantitative: (Taken from: Palys and

Atchinson, 2007, p. 426).
o It emphasizes numerical precision
o Objective and without researcher bias
o Often hypothetico-deductive approach

10. Once you have found your articles, make sure

that you have all the referencing information you will

require. Please refer to the JIBC Library’s
APA reference guide at: http://lgdata.s3-website-

us-east-

1.amazonaws.com/docs/766/161187/APA_Style-

6th_ed-Dec2011.pdf.

11. You may wish to make notes as you go to

organize your thoughts for your written summary.

12. Once you have documented the referencing

information, you will want to identify the following from

each article:
? Sample population: who, how many, where
? Type of sampling: probalistic/non-probabalistic and

which technique used in those categories (e.g.,

snowballing)
? Type of methodology: how the study was done
? Findings

13. As you read the articles, think critically of any

rival plausible explanations or “alternative factors that

might also have accounted for the results”,
such as threats to internal validity (Palys and

Atchinson, 2007, p. 428). Also consider any possible

recommendations of how you think the research
should or could have been conducted differently.

14. Now write a summary of each article in 3-4

paragraphs with all the information you collected in step

4 and 5.
