This paper should apply an analytical method to answer a question of interpretation. The scene analysis should focus on a single scene of one Chinese film: “Farewell My Concubine” by Chen Kaige (1993). It is NOT a movie review or a plot summary; rather, it should demonstrate that some particular feature of the film has significance beyond the story and can be more fully understood in terms of formal construction, historical context, and/or political orientation. The analysis papers will be assessed according to the importance of the thesis, the appropriateness and persuasiveness of the use of evidence to support the thesis, the quality of writing, and the correctness of MLA-style citations.
