Self Analysis Paper
Objective:
The goal of this paper is for you to explore your real world identity versus your social media identity using The Looking Glass-self Theory. You are to examine your current identity (“core self” or “I”) and the identity you are portraying in your social media or media world (“me”). This is an introspective assignment examining your core identity. Furthermore, part of this assignment is identifying if you are being true to your own identity based on what is being reflected back to you in your social media image and use.
Sometimes asking “who am I?” and exploring your own identity is one of the most difficult tasks to analyze. However, before we could understand others and the technological tools we are using we must first examine our identity. More importantly, this paper will in part increase your awareness of “who you truly are” and the identity you are portraying in the media world. You will begin to ask you self, “Am I being true to myself in how I am communicating and images I am posting in the media world?”
In your analysis please examine the theory Symbolic Interactionism and more specifically, Looking Glass Self and explore the image(s) you are portraying in your Social Media use. Analyze your posting, description of yourself, pictures (include pictures that you tag or others tag), items you “liked”, tweets, instagram, linkedin, blogs, gaming or chat name tags, etc., and discover the consistency or inconsistency in your real life “self”/identity.
Use APA format for citations and cite everything you use.
Minimum Requirements:
• 3-4 pages (Does not include cover page and reference page).
• This paper must be typed, double-spaced, 1-inch margins all the way around, 12 pt font (Times New Roman).
• Include a title page and a References page (see attached word document).
• Cite a minimum of 3 primary sources.
