Strindberg’s Miss Julie

The character of Julie in Strindberg’s Miss Julie is similar in many important respect to Hedda Gabler. Both characters remained tied psychologically and emotionally to their fathers (Julie to her mother as well). Both have subconscious desires to rebel against society and their upbringing, and both can be described as psychotic.
They also both opt for suicide to extricate themselves from what they perceive to be intolerable situations. There are, however, crucial differences between their motivations and attitudes toward suicide which says a great deal about the two women.
In your thesis paragraph, isolate what you see as important differences which result in the different thematic emphasis of the play.
In other words, what do the differences between the protagonists reveal about the plays as a whole?
